By examining the manufacturing process as a whole, we are able to determine the proper layout of machinery in order to facilitate workflow. A step-by-step approach is required. The idea is to create an automated production line where each step of the manufacturing process follows a logical sequence.
Machinery needs to be looked at as a cell. Determining whether a single cell is independent or dependent upon another is critical. The plant as a whole needs to be viewed as a self-sustaining entity with each cell playing a critical role. By determining the proper work path and tying together the various infrastructure will ultimately determine long-term sustainability and success.
